    Biffy Clyro news

The new single ‘Bubbles’ released April 26th on 14th Floor Records – Featuring Queen of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme

“Springs the band instantly level with the greatest rock acts in the world.” – NME

“There are those talking of this record as an ascent to the mainstream. It would be a rare and welcome thing indeed if a band with the depths Biffy Clyro possess could achieve such ubiquity.” – Kerrang!

“A supremely confident, passionate and gritty work which proves the Ayrshire trio are now among rock’s heavyweights.” – The Sun

“A huge, polished brute of a record. The melodies are instant… this is a big, obvious, step forward.” – The Guardian

Hot on the heels of their recent NME Award, Biffy Clyro release the new single ‘Bubbles’ on April 26th on 14th Floor Records. Released to coincide with their imminent UK tour, the single is taken from their current album ‘Only Revolutions’ that debuted in the Top 10 and has since sold 250,000 copies in the UK alone.

A fiery concoction of aggressive melodies, compelling hooks and a blistering closing jam, ‘Bubbles’ features a special guest in the shape of Josh Homme who contributes additional guitar to the track. Their friendship was cemented when Biffy Clyro toured Europe and North America as support to Homme’s Queens of the Stone Age.

Someone like Josh, it’s like he’s a musical lifer,” says vocalist/guitarist Simon Neil. “We are as well, and I think when you meet people you can see in their eyes whether they really mean it or not. It’s kind of weird being friends with someone who’s a hero like Josh, but I see in him what I see in myself and he sees in us what he saw in himself, that kind of hunger and willingness and doing it for the right reasons. It’s really easy to connect with people because of that.”

‘Bubbles’ will be released on CD and two vinyl formats, with b-sides to be confirmed.

Biffy Clyro’s prior UK tour included two rapturously received homecoming shows at Glasgow’s Barrowload and concluded at London’s Brixton Academy. Their upcoming tour, listed below, concludes with another sizeable London date at Hammersmith Apollo:

    29th – Perth, Concert Hall

    30th – Sheffield, O2 Academy

    1st – Blackpool, Empress Ballroom

3rd – Leicester, De Montfort Hall

    4th – Portsmouth, Guildhall

    5th – Bristol, Colston Hall

    6th – London, Hammersmith Apollo

In addition, Biffy Clyro will also play the Isle of Wight and T in the Park festival. Further festival dates are likely to be announced in the coming weeks.

    Lady Gaga tour news

US pop star Lady Gaga has announced three more dates for the UK leg of her Monster Ball tour, but some tickets have nearly doubled in price.

The lavish tour kicked off in Manchester last month, when tickets cost between £27.50 and £35.

However, the extra dates, which have been organised by a different promoter, are priced between £50 and £75.

Some fans on the singer’s website have expressed concern at the steep price hike for the forthcoming gigs.

Ric Dickinson wrote: “Will we be getting a brand new show when the tour comes back to the UK in May? Or will the show be the same and fans will be expected to pay £75 for a show that only cost them £27 to see months earlier?

Another fan, calling themselves Barley 142007, said: “I was sure the price will go up but this is steep!!!!”

Two dates on the current leg of Lady Gaga’s tour, in Sheffield and Nottingham, were postponed earlier this week and will now form part of the star’s second outing.

Referring to those dates, Dickinson continued: “I will gladly pay the extra if we are promised something extra, however surely it would be a case for trading standards, especially as the rescheduled shows will get to see a show that everyone else will get to see after paying three times as much.”

Lady Gaga has already revamped her stage production once – scrapping her entire US show and retooling it for the UK at a reported cost of £2m.

Arthur Fogel, chairman of global touring at Live Nation, said: “What was a small arena/theatre production is now a massive, first rate arena production.

“Ticket prices for the previous dates were set long before the current Monster Ball show was developed. Ticket prices are comparable and fair.”

The Live Nation website said the tour had been extended due to “overwhelming response”. Tickets go on sale on 12 March.

The Brit-Award winner, known for hits such Paparazzi and Just Dance, will play Birmingham, London and Manchester in May and June – in the same venues she has already visited on the current leg of the tour.

    Florence feeling the blues

Florence off the machine has admitted that she has struggled with the loneliness of life on the road since becoming famous.

The Florence and the Machine singer said that her relentless schedule following the success of debut album ‘Lungs’ has left her feeling isolated and emotional.

She told press: “In some sense you do think, like, ‘What am I giving up, what am I sacrificing, for this?’ I can get quite lonely. I have weepy moments. The last time I had a proper cry was in Australia. I was sobbing alone in a hotel room. I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed, and then I fell asleep… just, like, exhaustion and doing nine hours of promo.

“I just felt really alone. And when you talk about yourself so much, it’s like saying a word over and over again. It loses all meaning.”

Welch added: “I could have gone and been with people but, well, I’d wanted to cry at certain points during the day, and I did cry in a photo shoot – I had to go to the toilet and just go, ‘Waaargh!'”
